Intelligence can be defined as "knowledge and foreknowledge of the world around us ...that helps consumers to consider alternative options and outcomes" [A
Consumer's Guide to Intelligence (Washington D.C. : Central Intelligence Agency, 1994) p. vii] With the emerging "knowledge work", the collected information, from the disparate nature of the Web's sources (= global computer information network) and the
personal one, will be transformed into knowledge, through an intelligent interpretation process.
Actually the push / pull technologies and the "personalize" approach involving intelligent agent technology can seek out information that the user is interested in
based on few keywords or on context, respectively. Nevertheless, no product exists actually able to convert information into knowledge. Infact this process is composed
of intuition, talent, imagination and a system of logic which allows these things to make sense of all collected information. [ Lynch, M (1997) "No more push-me
pull-you" in: Computer Weekly - July 17, 30; "The Internet" edited by G. Young (1998), page 26]. The union of the "explicit and tacit knowledge" [as defined by Borghoff, U.M. and
Pareschi, M. in the Introduction to "Information technology for knowledge management" (Borghoff and Pareschi, eds.), Springer, 1998] will permit to package
documents (in aggregated /disaggregated forms) tailored exactly to the customer's needs for its critical and complex decision. Considering the rapid evolution of each
business in the today's society, it is imperative to use them as soon as possible. The Basics reliable sources of data
. "The goal is to make data collection as objective and comprehensive as possible and then develop effective and efficient methods of extracting what the clients need" [Dale J. Long, CHIPS, XXI (IV), 44 - 47 (2003)]. a means to communicate a sense of trust The Intelligence Process includes:(i) Technology Intelligence (ii) Competitor Intelligence (iii) Business Intelligence
Technology Intelligence forewarns about scientific and technical developments that will adversely affect the shelf-life of current technologies. It alerts of new technical opportunities.
Competitor Intelligence identifies who threatens your markets and your customers with: whatwhen where how
You need to know your competitors in terms of intentions capabilities
limitations vulnerabilities.
Technology Intelligence and Competitor Intelligence together will contribute to building Business Intelligence
, that is the radar, signal processor, communicator network that that alerts senior managers to events that will impact business strategies, plans and tactics

- Does the story fit the pattern of a conspiracy theory?
- Does the story fit the pattern of an "urban legend?"
- Does the story contain a shocking revelation about a highly controversial issue?
- Is the source trustworthy?
- What does further research tell you?

Teaching Intelligence: Getting Started by John Macartney"College courses on the CIA and/or intelligence were non-existent when I was an undergraduate
back in the 1950's, and the same was true when I went to graduate school in the 1970's. Today, however, courses on the CIA and intelligence abound in this country and, to a lesser extent, abroad.
Since most of us in today's professorate never took courses on intelligence as students, there is some question of where to start. That's the subject of this paper"
